We don't know what we don't know.
We bring our own belief to any situations, and we often assume we all have the same belief. When those assumptions do not play out in the conversation, we sense the need to justify our belief. Why is it important to be right? Why is it hard to welcome/ accept new ideas or foreign concepts? Why is it hard to think we may not know everything? We do not know what we do not know.

What are the things you may need to give a second thought? What are the reasons that you do not want to change your opinions? What happens when you learn new ideas? How would that change you?
Personally, I can admit that I hate to be wrong. So I am going to have a different attitude about this and say, "I learned something new, or I understand other's point of view better now." even when things are not clear, "It is intriguing, so I will keep learning and I hope my past knowledge or experience will not dictate my learning process."
