Uncomfortable

Writer's picture: YurikoYuriko

"I had to make you uncomfortable, otherwise you would have not moved." -God (statement found in instagram)

When I read this, my first reaction was "oh yah, I remember those holy butt-kicking moments." Then I remember those hard days when expecting something more, hoping something different, or moving to different direction was far more uncomfortable than dwelling in misery.

Dwelling in misery becomes strangely comfortable because it creates a sense of familiarity. Anything that requires us to change our routines, it brings uncomfortableness. Some actions, such as going to a new job or moving to a new house, bring joy and excitement but there is element of uncomfortableness. Other actions, such as working out or cutting excessive screen time, do not bring instant gratification but there is satisfaction at the end.

What makes us choose uncomfortable? Knowing the end results? Believing our effort? But how do you know that or how do we begin to want that? When would the misery become unbearable and what would push us to make a first step toward an uncomfortable yet needed change? If you are at the breaking point, what kind of support do you need?
