“Do it scared.’ This phrase was first introduced to me in the book “Taking the Stairs” by Rory Vaden. I highly recommend reading this book and the story can be found on page 184.
Doing something new always feels very challenging and can cause you to feel unqualified. Similarly, beginning something you are convinced that you must do; something that can change your life, can be almost paralyzing. Even when we know the value of the outcome, choosing to take that first step frightens us.
Why are we scared of the first step?
How did we convince ourselves it would be challenging? Is that an excuse?
How exactly do we find the courage to do it?
What kind of support would we need to begin and continue?
Could it be that, if it is not challenging, it may not be worth taking a risk?
Courage is taking action despite your fear. Do it scared.- Ruth Soukup
